Hm, ze gebruikten dus geen straatcylinders, maar een geheel nieuwe mal.
En dat mocht dus niet.

Ze moesten en dezelfde mal hebben, en hetzelfde materiaal..

QUOTE (Paul Collins @ Jan 2 2011, 15:50)
Yamaha did produce a prototype of a road bike called something like the GL750 which was shown at a bike show but was never produced and people in the know say it was just a mock up, it seems they were somehow allowed to sidestep the homologation rule a bit like Petronas in WSB.

I think the rules were fairly fluid in those days and subject to interpretation, I remember the TR750's being excluded from a result somewhere because the 3 or 4 shallow fins which run along the top of the head on the GT750 had disappeared from the TR heads and this was protested by someone.

Suzuki was banned for 6 month from the AMA series cause of a protest following the Suzuki win in the Road Atlanta race on the 16th April 1972. The rule book of the Formula 750 was slightely different to the AMA rules. As i know, maybe i'm wrong, the difference was , FIM Formula 750: "similar (to the road bike) cylinder casting material" AMA: "similar cylinder casting and material".
The TR 750 barrels were made from Aluminium like the roadsters, but they were sandcasted specials, ...the protest was accepted. Guess it had something to do with a "green" concurrent.

The real problem was that the national japanese motorcycle association has, ignoring the FIM rulebook, homologated the TZ 700 without a corresponding roadbike. The FIM banned the TZ700/750 for the Formula 750 races in 1974, so the Daytona 200 (counting for AMA and FIM Formula 750)and the Imola 200 were declared as open races, most of the guys were TZ 700 riders, so they couldn't get championchip points there, ....but a lot of money!

The AMA was very strict with the rules..., when the Suzuki TR750 got a 6speed gearbox in 1975, the manufacturer has to show 200 roadbikes with 6Speed gearbox, the GT750 just have a 5speed cluster. Suzuki has solved the Problem, not allowed to tell you how !

cheers

Staat nog meer info rond het voorval van de tr750 en de ban van AMA.

Dit is eigenlijk het compleet goed antwoord.
